A Day at the Park

Doing our school lessons, I have to admit, is REALLY hard when we have had the BEAUTIFUL weather we have had the last few days... High 60's/low 70's under CLEAR skies... We decided to make a day of it and get away to the park for a couple of hours last Tuesday... We met up with some old friends and their daughter, my little God-daughter : ) and the kids had a blast playing while we BIG people sat and soaked up some sun while chit-chatting....

Bear With Me...

This made me laugh... thanks to my friend Angela for sending it along....

The Photo below captures a disturbing trend beginning to affect U.S. Wildlife...

Formerly self-sufficient animals now show signs of mimicking human behavior too closely. This Montana Black Bear no longer forages for food but waits impatiently for the delivery of a government issued picnic basket - commonly referred to by rangers as a "Bearack stimulus package".

wah-wah-waaaahhhhh.... : )

The Lovey Award

My new friend Lana, at Knit and Pray has given me the Lovey Award : ) thank you so much! And now that I have received this wonderful gift, it is my job to pass it on... So here's the rules:

The Lovey Award:
“These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find
and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that
when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated.
Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight
bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into
the body of their award.”

Reason Number 4,984,974 Why I Homeschool...

And if you DON'T homeschool, be sure to check your child's homework BEFORE they turn it in! : )

(Here's the reply the teacher received the following day)

Dear Mrs. Jones,

I wish to clarify that I am not now, nor have I ever
been, an exotic dancer. I work at Home Depot and I told my daughter how
hectic it was last week before the blizzard hit. I told her we sold out
every single shovel we had, and then I found one more in the back room, and that
several people were fighting over who would get it. Her picture
doesn't show me dancing around a pole. It's supposed to depict me selling
the last snow shovel we had at Home Depot. From now on I will remember to check
her homework more thoroughly before she turns it in. Sincerely,Mrs. Smith

My 6 Year Old Makes Me Laugh... : )

She comes in looking at a Star Wars book with pictures that her brother got at the library the other day. She says, "Daddy! Guess what? This Star Wars book has a song in it! You know that, dad? It's got a song and it starts with a 'D'! Do you know what song it is, Dad? Can you guess?... " With a HUGE smile on her face like she is keeping the BIGGEST secret EVER and it's about to BURST out of her mouth any second.... "Can you guess Daddy? It starts with a 'D'!"

A few seconds later she starts, "dum dum dum dum dee dum, dum dee dum...." to the tune of the Darth Vadar theme. lol!!

They're Ba - ack..... : )

It's THAT time of year, again! The time of year when we get to watch people from all parts of the nation get THEIR shot at fame and fortune in the world of music! As I shared with you all last season, I am an American Idol addict... : ) I will be watching tonight and the next couple of weeks to see all the auditions, the serious and the not so serious and cheer on my favorites and perhaps switch channels on the few that may be too hard to watch... sometimes it CAN be painful to watch... It amazes me how many *think* that they really can sing, but can't carry a tune in a bucket... and sometimes it's just a matter of nerves and they can't belt it out...

AND there is the addition of a 4th judge, another woman... I admit I haven't read or heard too much about her, no time, but it will be interesting to see the dynamics that that will bring to the show.

Mary Had a Little Lamb....

My sister sent these this morning and I just had to share! Isn't she the cutest little lamb?... This is my great-niece, "Lamby-ella" : ) sporting the latest in "adorable winter time baby apparel"...

I added a picture of her with her Momma, so you can see the whole ensemble, including the little lamby-mittens. Can I hear a collective "Aaaaawwwww"...?

My Elves...

I did one of these last year but had forgotten about it until some friends of ours sent us one with their own family pictures. I couldn't resist, so I made one of our own. It's fun! So, once you have a look, make one with your own family pics and then send it out to friends and family for a laugh!

I've Always Loved to Sing...

From the time I was very young I would sing along with the radio, play my favorite albums and memorize my favorite songs, then practice singing in to my hair brush over and over again... I sang in choirs in school, from elementary to college. I've sung liturgy at Mass and have sung for several weddings. I guess that's probably why I have always liked American Idol... I think back to how badly I wanted to be a professional singer when I was young and what would have happened if I had had the guts to pursue that career... but I digress... : )

This video of these young, talented men reminded me and brought back lots of memories that I have of singing as part of a group. I loved the harmonizing and how much fun it was to sing together in a choir. Two of my best girlfriends and I always had fun picking different parts of songs and singing them in harmony, just for the fun of it. You can tell that these guys are just having a blast! and the crowd is loving it... Enjoy!

I've been "tagged"...

By Linda from Don't Poke the Baby. This is pretty easy, though... list 6 things that make you happy then tag your friends... hhhmmm let's see...

6. Holding a new baby (complete with "new baby" smell...) curled up in a little ball quietly sleeping on my chest...
5. When my husband lets me put my cold feet up against him to warm them up in the bed...
4. The quiet of a church filled with the smell of candles (not the smelly ones, just the plain ole beeswax prayer candles smell...)
3. Getting together with my friends and family, siblings, cousins, etc...
2. The sound of my children's uncontrollable laughter when playing together...
1. "Light bulb moments" with my kids, when you KNOW that something FINALLY clicked with them that you've been trying to teach...

Okay. Now it's time to tag some friends... How 'bout:

Melissa at Almost Catholic Momma
The Mom at Shoved to Them
the Expresso Catholic Mom
WICatholic
and Occultus Matris at Keeping Up With the Comptons

Now, you're it! ; )

A Day at the Fair...

We took our annual first of the year field trip to the County Fair on Monday where we met my sister and her son and made the rounds of the crafts, quilting, crocheting, doll collections, mini town models made of toothpicks, the cake decorating, various collections and, of course, the animals. Surprisingly, there just didn't seem to be as much on display this year as in years past... not sure why...

All the same, we all had a blast, walking around, munching on our picnic lunch and snacks and visiting with familiar faces from years past... Here are a few pics of our day...

My girls are greeted by the cowboys at the front gate. As you can see, the baby was VERY excited to be so close to the horsey!

We stopped for some snacks in between exhibits...

The County Fair has what they call "School Fair Days" where school kids get in for free during the morning hours to visit the exhibits, the animals and some of the shows they have, like pig racing, clown acts, magic acts, hands-on science exhibits, petting zoo, etc... the carnival area with the rides is closed until later in the afternoon. So, tradition with our kids is, they like to sit on the foot-vibrating chairs and pop in a quarter.... They crack up EVERY time... we tell them "That's 'the ride'..." lol... that's okay, though, because the carnival area and those rides make me nervous, anyway... The baby wouldn't get on a chair until it stopped moving... lol...

Some other local homeschooling friends were showing their animals. This guy was holding what he called a "mini-rex" bunny. He was SO cute! And velvety soft! Quite content to sit and let the kids pet him...

This was a BEAUTIFUL pheasant that was being shown. The only one I saw, actually. You can see the beautiful color and my son couldn't help but take it's picture as it posed...

My nephew was amused at holding his finger out at this fine looking turkey, that would have liked nothing better than to grab it in his beak! If he could JUST get a little bit closer! lol...

This is the older brother of our homeschooling friends that had the mini rex bunny. My younger son enjoyed the chickens, as we all did...

This little girl was so cute! Didn't know her, but she had my sister help her get this chicken of hers out of the cage so she could show it to us. Yup. It's a chicken! Look again! It has a red head that blends right in with her shirt! At first glance it may look like she's holding a little black dog... Anyway! As you can see, my younger son is standing right next to her, anxious to hear about this cool looking chicken! After she put it back in it's cage he volunteered to help her go around and check on and feed all of her 4 chickens that she was showing. He was in "heaven"! lol!

A fun time had by all! The wheels are already turning in my young ones heads with plans for next year's fair and what they want to enter and/or show... From art work to chickens to bunnies... it's a tough choice! Good thing we have a year! ; )

What'dya Think?

At the suggestion from a fellow blogging mom, Almost Catholic Momma, I got a wild hair and decided to check out the Cutest Blog on the Block and try out a new look... So, what'dya think? I'm still not sure I did it right, because the middle section didn't change, just the sides, but then I'm still pretty amateur at this stuff... But it's fun to try something new and different!

In Search of the "Perfect" Name...

So, we've been playing around with names, again, for the new baby. We don't have any kind of pattern, or method, really... I mean, we don't have all "J" names or whatever... We like sort of old-fashioned pretty names, preferably something that has some biblical or religious/Saint tie to it, but still a little bit unique.... Girl names seem to be coming easier than boy names... here are some that we've considered...

Gianna Elise
Elizabeth Mary
Antonia (My grandmother's name) ???

Anthony Joel
Charles John
Samuel Elijah

I like all of these, for different reasons, but I'm not sure if any of them "scream out" at me, yet... It seems, with our other 4, we just "knew", ya know?... So, I'm open to any and all suggestions!
