Notre Dame Pressing Forward with Trespassing Charges...

Friend, author and speaker Jane Brennan and Laura Rohling went to the Universtiy of Notre Dame on Friday may 8th in order to be a witness to students on campus that they regretted their abortions. They went to pray for the students and staff at Notre Dame with rosaries in hand.... They went and instead of being welcomed with open arms, for being a great witness for this most basic fundamental Truth of the Catholic Faith on a Catholic campus, they were met with handcuffs and arrested for trespassing.... I have earlier posted their open letter to Fr. Jenkins . Further details of their arrest and where the case is headed can be found at their website Free Jane and Laura. Check them out and consider helping in any way that you can...

Bed Time Prayers...

Reading up on Matt Archibald at the Creative Minority Report reminded me how good it is to have some routine in life... Sure, routine can get boring or monotonous or pick another similar word to insert here... but routine brings security and peace in knowing that somethings shouldn't change...

In case you haven't noticed (I have...) I haven't posted a whole lot of what's been going on in my home life as of late... I guess because life has just been so crazy... We've been trying to finish out our school year, trying to do some house cleaning and re-organizing (yeah, right... ), trying to pre-qualify for a house, and hoping and praying that God will find us the "perfect" home, once we get the other stuff out of the way... Trying to occupy a two year old, juggle an infant, and get some semblance of school work out of the older three on top of this, it's been a bit stressful...

The economy is bad (like you haven't noticed : ] ) and since Tuesday's election, $2 billion more will be cut from education... and while my hubby isn't a teacher of children, he IS a teacher of school bus drivers, in charge of training those that pick up your children and take them to school... So, yeah, it's a little scary to think about his future job prospects, especially in light of our trying to buy a home...

I know, we aren't the only ones affected... Jobs ALL OVER are in jeopardy... I have to sit and wonder WHERE IN THE WORLD is the future of this STATE headed?... Thank God for my Faith! Because i honestly don't know HOW ELSE I could see ANY good out of any of this! It would be SO EASY to get down and depressed... Sometimes i do... But right now, I'm not... I get frustrated, but not hopeless. In my heart, I know that God is still in control here, and the best thing I can do for my self and my family, right now is to stay grounded to Him... and in return, He grants me little tid-bits of light, here and there, of where I can actually SEE His work... in me, in my family... Which brings me back to routine...

I went to put the two year old to bed the other night, after an especially trying day... Not much sleep the night before, dealing with screaming, crying kids through most of the day, lots of teasing and just general orneriness going on. It was bed time and I wanted nothing more than to just put them all to bed and have some quiet time before I fell asleep, myself. I took the 2 year old to the bathroom, had her use the potty, I cleaned her up with a wash cloth, threw a diaper on her because I didn't want to have to get up with "accidents", walked her to her room, put her in the bed, covered her up, almost zombie like, on my part, turned out the light and started to close the door.... "Mom-mom! Mom-mom!"

"What, #2?... Go to sleep! Mommy's tired!..."

"Mom-mom, mmem..."

Though she is starting to talk a lot more, it still takes some skill to translate, so I said, "uh-huh... good... go to sleep..." and started to shut her door...

"Mom-mom! mmem..."

"What are you talking about?.. Mommy's tired!" I looked at her this time and there she was sitting up, giving her best effort to do the sign of the cross, mumbling and finishing off with "mmem", translated "Amen", then folding her hands, waiting for me to say prayers with her...

oops... forgive me Father... So, tired as I was, I went to her bedside, knelt down and began "Angel of God, my guardian dear..." and she mumbled her way through every word, with a resounding "Mmmemm!" at the end, then leaning forward with lips puckered for a kiss, says, "luv-oo"... and rolled over fast asleep, probably before I was able to haul my fat, tired fanny up off the floor! lol... "I love you too, sweetie... have nice dreams..."

yeah... routines are good... And God is still in control... and He'll use the smallest among us to remind us! : ) Amen and amen!

Women Deserve BETTER than Abortion!

"Abortion strips women of their dignity, and men of their responsibility to women...." Janie is very blessed with her ministry, and she has touched many hearts... God Bless her! It is wonderful to hear from someone that has been there and can touch BOTH sides of the debate. God has showered her with grace and healing in sharing her own story, and in response she will touch many more... I was so touched by her testimony and I encourage you to check out her website, read her book, listen to her CD's and see about having her come to your parish or pro-life event. In her message, she calls on everyone of us to NOT give up our most powerful weapons, prayers and fasting. Do NOT write these women off, but pray for them. Pray FERVENTLY for them, because our prayers do not go in vain. they are POWERFUL and they work. As she gratefully acknowledges, as radical of a feminist that she was, SOMEONE was praying for her....

Also at our banquet we met and heard the music of Catholic singer-song writer Donna Lee. Another beautiful soul with a powerful message for those hurting after abortion.

Washington D.C. March for Life 2009

Here are some pictures that I borrowed from my friend and editor, Sarah, who made it to the March for Life this last Thursday. Feeling disappointed in the SEVERE LACK of media coverage AGAIN this year, she was more than happy to allow me to share these here. Her comments from the event were on the tens of thousands of people, including Italy, France and Germany making their presence known.... Lastly, she was able to catch a glimpse and a picture of our mutual friend and author Jane Brennan, part of the Silent No More group, as she spoke in front of the Supreme Courthouse after her first attendance to the March of Life in Washington D.C.

I think most of the pictures speak for themselves, so I'll leave it at that. Enjoy!

While 100's of Thousands March for Life....

Obama "Celebrates" death.... Oh, he doesn't word it that way, but in his statement he reaffirms his "commitment" to "protecting a woman's right to choose...." death of their pre-born baby... to quote a statement that I heard over the airwaves from the crowd more than once yesterday during the ProLife March aired on EWTN, "President Obama, you can thank your mother that SHE was pro-life...."

He sounds no different than the abortion rhetoric that comes from the mouths of the usual suspects... Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Diane Feinstien, Barbara Boxer, etc... all in the name of "health" and "freedom".... They believe that it's a woman's "right" that she should have the "freedom" to terminate the life and "health" of her unborn baby....

How many KNOW that Norma McCorvey, better known as "Jane Roe" of Roe -v- Wade, NEVER had an abortion?... and how many know that NOW she works tirelessly on the side of Life? Now, how many actually know a woman/victim of abortion, still working in that industry, that is HAPPY with her life now and encouraging others to do the same?... My point is, is that woman who actually have had abortions are either "A" coming out in droves speaking the TRUTH to what happens, and how they FEEL after an abortion encouraging others to choose life and consider other alternatives to abortion, such as adoption, or support to those who would rather keep their baby, or "B" dying little by little on the inside with the realization of what has been done... acting out in anger, violence, drug and alcohol use, depression, etc...

I think our Nation is in for a wild ride... The ban on stem cell research has now been lifted... is this supposed to justify the "need" for abortions?... There will continue to be millions of silent screams increasing in number with a swipe of his pen... President Obama, will you or any of your cabinet hear them?... I'm not too hopeful... The media will continue to ignore the numbers and turning their backs on the HUGE 'pink elephant" in the room, insisting instead to continue to report on that which is more important (to them), like how many times President Obama used the bathroom today... *sigh*

As a Christian I know I must certainly pray, AND hope... it will be a L O N G four years...

How God Brings Good from Bad...

I have been watching/listening to the March for Life in our Nations Capital all morning on EWTN. The actual March started over an hour ago and there seems to be no end to the sea of people that have gathered to show solidarity for the Culture of Life... What a site! I have to admit that I was watching initially to see if I could catch a glimpse of my friend and author of Motherhood Interrupted Janie Brennan with the Silent No More group... No such luck, but gosh, I am just OVERWHELMED with the numbers of people marching! HOW CAN THE SECULAR MEDIA NOT COVER THIS?? They just don't want to hear/see... How BLIND they are... I believe that the election of Barak Obama and knowing his stance on abortion, has only bolstered the confidence of the pro-life movement to work all the harder to make their voices heard. Rumor has it that this is the largest turn out ever, for the annual D.C event. President Obama, are you listening?... The people that you promised to serve and protect are crying out from their mothers wombs...

Eternal Father, for the sake of His Sorrowful Passion, have Mercy on us and on the WHOLE world... Amen...

Shepherd Me, O God...

There is a variation of the 23rd Psalm that we sing at Mass that goes:

"Shepherd me O God, beyond my wants, beyond my fears, from death in to life...."

It has been going through my mind for the past week or so since we learned that my brother in laws battle with cancer had taken another bad turn... Between that and the pending arrival of our newest little one...

I know when I first learned of this pregnancy and wondering the "why" of it all... though I wanted to be happy, I just couldn't bring myself out of my fear and anxiety ... And now, here we are, full circle and I am once again amazed at the timing and outcome of God's perfect plan...

"Uncle Chuckie" passed and was born in to eternal life at about 2:45 last Thursday afternoon. It was only an hour and 20 minutes later that Samual Charles was born and taking his first breath of his life here on earth... My sister said she is sure that Sam and her beloved husband must have waved at each other in "passing"... It is a bittersweet time... We mourn the loss of a wonderful man that was so good to my sister and their son. We mourn the loss of a man that I admired for doing so much to especially step in and help take care of my mom, after my dad passed away 5 years ago. He was a true, honest and hard worker who spent most of his time worrying about taking care of others, either at home or at work. He will be missed...
and now we have Sam as that constant reminder that our birth in to this life is to be lived in honor and glory to Him, that we may live with Him forever, in the next life. As my pastor so sweetly wrote to me this morning, "God rest Chuck’s soul, part of which lives in Sam!" Amen and amen! This is a picture of Chuckie's son, my nephew, and Sam's soon to be Godfather... "from death into life..."

Continued prayers for our family are truly appreciated as we get through this tough week... The funeral will be Wednesday morning...

A Change in Plans...

So, as it happens, I go in to see my doctor today, one last visit before surgery next Friday the 7th. I had told him that I really wasn't having a good day. I just wasn't feeling very good, it had been a crazy week, my brother in law was in the hospital and I was pretty much just "spinning"... My contractions were increasing, but nothing that had my body doing anything... Sam is still locked up tight...

After examining me, weight was the same, BP was 128/72, no protein, etc... he told me that he wanted to see what he could do about delivering earlier... though the problem was he was going to be gone out of town until Wednesday next week. I thought "well, I'm already scheduled for Friday, what difference would one or two days make?..." Anyway, he said he wanted to check and left me to get dressed. While he was gone I said a prayer, telling God, "You know what is going on with my family right now. You know what is best... You know I want to be available for my sister and nephew when I am needed most... Your will be done..."

About 2 minutes later the doctor popped back in and said, "How about tomorrow at 3:30?"

Wow... Sometimes God answers prayers VERY swiftly and still, quite unexpectedly... So, after a couple of phone calls, it was decided that we would go ahead and do this... My brother in law is fading... right now my sister is focused on her husband and his needs... and I'm thinking that this way I will be there for my sis and nephew when and if they need me most... It may all be just another product of God's perfect timing... from death into life...

So, I'll be off for a little bit, but please keep us all in prayer... for my brother in law to have a peaceful and happy passing from this life to the next, for my sister and her son to be surrounded with love and grace to sustain them through this dark time... and for a safe and happy surgery and delivery for myself and Sam... Thanks!

On Death and Dying...

It seems as Christians, our goal is to try to prepare ourselves, not more for this life but for the next... What is it we are taught from the beginning? Why did God create us? To love, serve and honor Him in THIS life, so that we may be with Him FOREVER in next... So when it happens that a loved one among us has reached his time to go and be with God, it is not for him that we mourn, but for ourselves... those of us left here to continue to fight on the front lines in hopes that one day, we too will have the opportunity to stand before God and hear Him tell us, "well done, good and faithful servant" and remain with Him forever....

Very soon I will be going to the hospital to see my brother-in-law and say my final 'goodbyes'. After his less than year long battle with an aggressive cancer, he has found his way home to the Catholic Church. God is good! He was able to partake in the sacraments, giving him strength and courage, to go forward for as long as his body would allow him to. The oncologist only yesterday told them that his body was done. It is shutting down and there is not much more that can be done, but pray... So pray, we will continue to do...

We pray for miracles, as we know that God is the God of miracles and no matter the outcome, we have already witnessed wonderful graces come from this terrible time... No matter the outcome, my brother in law has been able to partake of and receive the graces of the sacraments these last couple of months with much joy and peace. My prayer now is that he will hang on at least until Saturday, November 1, the feast of All Souls... What better time?... It was only yesterday when our parish pastor and associate came to his bedside and prayed over him, giving him yet another opportunity to receive the body and blood of Our Lord to sustain him on his journey 'home'... He will be good. He is as ready as one could be... But it is for my sister and nephew that my heart aches... This has all happened so fast... and I don't know if any of us left here can ever be "ready" to let go of a loved one in death....

Please say a prayer for the family. They really are priceless and felt as a soft place to land when they need it most... God's will be done...

Storm Updates

Well, it seems that Ike has made his way through and thankfully my friends have all seemed to have reported to be together and safe. Damage is varying, but apparently fixable... some still without power AND phone lines... and a couple of more friends dealing with left over wind storms in the Columbus Ohio area. Thank you all so much to those who took time out to say a prayer. We may never know the whole magnitude of that which we pray for in keeping people safe...

The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

"Lift High the Cross! The Love of Christ proclaim! Till all the world.... adore.... His Sacred Name...."

Many Blessings this day, expected and not expected... Today is my baby's second birthday! She woke up grumpy, and for whatever reason has continued to be less than "adorable" this day, but none the less, she is healthy and happy for the most part and we are blessed to have her : ) She's actually getting the hang of this potty thing, which is a great relief! And so for her birthday, she not only got a toy, but some new 'big girl' panties... She's very proud... So is mommy : )

My great niece was also baptised today! So she shares her re-birth day with my baby's birthday! The baptism was down in San Diego, so we missed it, but I'm sure it was beautiful and Ella did perfect! I'm anxious to see pictures of the big event! Ella's Grandma and Grandpa, and great-Grandma should be home this evening...

Then, surprisingly, we had a third and unexpected blessing for this day in which a family member decided to take that final "plunge" in to the Tiber and swim across! I couldn't keep the tears from my eyes as a small gathering of family and close friends surrounded him as he made his Profession of Faith, received his First Holy Communion, was Confirmed and Anointed... It was very beautiful and I felt very blessed to be there! May God continue to bless him with all the peace and blessings of his Holy Catholic Church!

We celebrate the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, and God blessed us greatly as we gazed upon Him on that Cross! Thank You, Jesus! Amen and Amen!

Hurricane Ike

As I write, according to the latest news, Ike is pounding the Gulf Coast near Houston. I have a friend that lives near there, and evacuated with her family, inland last Thursday evening. God willing, they are safe and out of harms way, but I haven't heard, yet. For those of us not in the path of Ike, before we fall to sleep this night, say a prayer for all the people that are. I can only imagine how scary it would be to have to leave your home with only the bare essentials, not really knowing what you will come back to, if anything... God Bless!

We Should NEVER Forget...

9/11/01... We still had our driving school business and my husband was already at work and I was home with my 5 and 2 year old sons at the time... After making the boys breakfast I sat down at my computer like I did pretty much every morning and saw the headlines on my home page and watched in surreal disbelief... is this for real?... is this REALLY happening RIGHT now?? As I continued to watch, unable to turn away, yet expecting this to be some kind of dramatically bad joke, I backed my way over to the TV and turned it on, where I found EVERY channel showing the same thing over and over again... Actually when I first turned it on it was actually AFTER the first plane hit the first tower and JUST BEFORE the second plane hit the second tower. The newscaster was giving a report from the balcony with the one burning tower in the background when out of nowhere the second plane came crashing in to the second tower...

The subsequent crashes in to the field in PA and the Pentagon just added to the bizarreness of the whole morning... This CAN'T be real!! But it is!! What in God's name is happening?! For days the nation watched, eyes glued non-stop to any news source they could find to hear something, ANYTHING, for some kind of explanation... I remember trying to explain what "terrorists" were to my kindergartner son and "why" they want to hurt us... I had never seen a greater display of good ole 'USA Spirit' ever in my life... For the first time since what seemed my dad's era, people were actually PROUD to be American again... suddenly they had pride in their country again as all ages were willing to stand together and do whatever needed to be done to stand up and fight back against those who wanted to take away our freedom. Those who wanted us to be afraid and cower... Chants and cries filled the streets, airways of "WE WILL NEVER FORGET" and renditions of powerful American Eagles Rising from the ashes holding the red, white and blue in her talons.... American flags flying from just about every antenna or car window on the street. There was a sea of red, white and blue flying from homes, front yards, in windows of public buildings and private homes everywhere...

But, I think even MORE amazing than the surge of American pride, came forth SO MANY that suddenly realized how FORTUNATE we all were to be able to practice our FAITH so openly, so freely in this Country of ours... and the Christians came out in DROVES... People openly proclaiming their faith, their Christianity... Openly PRAYING for God to have MERCY and protect us... THAT was TRULY God working to bring some 'good' out of 'evil'... GOD BLESS AMERICA was our battle cry...

But, as things go with us humans, time passes and we tend to relax... and once again we get comfortable, getting caught up in the day to day of life and forget WHO this is all really about... WHO is really in control of all that is good in this world.. WHO we should be praying to, worshipping, honoring, THANKING...

At the start of this current election campaign I had forgotten... I had been losing hope... I had been anticipating, already, what the next four years will be like in this country for me and my family... what THAT future would bring for my children... But even in my doubt, as usual, God heard my and many others, I'm sure, underlying prayers for something, ANYTHING, to help bring back that hope in our future again... I think He answered those prayers in a "soccer mom" from 'little ole' Alaska...

There is NO guarantee that the McCain-Palin ticket will win and make it to the White House come January 20, but it sure as heck looks a whole lot better than it did only a few short weeks ago... God, I think, is giving us, Catholics, Christians and pro lifers of all denominations this LATEST OPPORTUNITY to step up and be HEARD!! To let the culture of death HEAR us and KNOW that all other rights are futile WITHOUT the RIGHT to LIFE! At all ages and stages, life has VALUE. Those almost 3000 lives that were lost on this fateful date 7 years ago had VALUE. Just ask the families that suffered the loss personally. And just ask the MILLIONS of Americans that have stood up SINCE that day wanting and willing to do their part to fight back in HONOR of those lost lives.... Every life that is lost to the "choice" of abortion, has value... just ask the hurting and mourning mother and/or father that regret that fateful decision.... Every person suffering from disability, or illness, even terminal, has VALUE, for even they have lessons to teach us in humbleness, humility, compassion, unconditional love... Somethings that this entire world could use more of...

No... God help us, may I/We may never forget... God rest the souls lost on 9/11/01, on this anniversary day, especially. God rest all souls of purgatory. God rest the Holy Innocents. May all the souls of the Faithful Departed, by the MERCY of God, rest in peace... God Bless the friends and families left behind in this world to mourne their loss and honor their lives... God Bless all God's children left here to fight the good fight in whatever capacity He has given us... God Bless the USA...

This Reminder Brought to You By... 1Peter 2: 20-25

Sometimes it's TOO easy for me to feel sorry for myself. Right now I know people who suffer from MAJOR illnesses, have lost children or other loved ones in death, are out of work, are hungry, and other life sufferings... It's good to be reminded how BLESSED I really am... Thank you Jesus for Your MANY Blessings! Help me to be EVER grateful for the MANY Blessings you have bestowed on me!
"Beloved: If you are patient when you suffer for doing what is good, this
is a grace before God. For to this you have been called, because Christ also
suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in His
footsteps.

He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in His mouth. when He was
insulted, He returned no insult; when He suffered, He did no threaten; instead,
He handed Himself over to the one who judges justly. He Himself bore our sins in
His body upon the cross, so that, free from sin, we might live for riteousness.
By HIS wounds you have been healed. For you have now returned to the Shepherd
and Guardian of your souls."

Amen and Amen....

You Are My God...

Late this afternoon I was starting to feel especially grumpy... Not really sure of why, exactly... a combination of feelings, circumstances, hormones... But one of those days when the tears just sort of well up in the back of your eyeballs waiting to burst forth at the first opportunity that someone looks at you cross-eyed...

Anyway, then I found this in my email from a good friend and CONSTANT prayer warrior for me and my family... It couldn't have come at a better time... Those tears came, but not in a bad way, as they could have... Just a reminder from my Creator that He is still here with me and will take my burdened yoke in exchange for His that is easy, and light... Thank you, Jesus!

If I'm not mistaken, the writer and performer, Tony Melendez is the same person that I saw on his debut, at a youth day with Pope John Paul II in 1986, at the Universal Studios Theatre in Los Angelas. I was a young, single college student, then, but I will never forget that day. You see, in case you don't know, Tony has no arms, and there he sat in complete humbleness before our Papa, playing his guitar with his feet and singing his heart out for him, for God and for all of us there lucky enough to witness the moment... Even better, I was only about 8 rows from the stage where I could see JPII VERY well and the expression on his face, how touched he was... When i saw that this was one of Tony's songs, it made the music and video that much more special to me... Enjoy...

Ultra Sound, take 3...

Well, I finally was able to have the awaited second ultra sound yesterday. It was a long morning of waiting, between the meeting with the genetic counselor (9:40am) and actually having the ultra sound (almost 12:30). I was a little nervous about the meeting with the genetic counselor, because I didn't want to hear words like "options" and "terminate" that seem to roll off of some people's tongues so easily... But that actually went more smoothly than I had anticipated, thank you, Jesus... She explained to me that in the first trimester u/s that they basically take the results of the u/s, my blood/hormone counts and my AGE to calculate a number. THAT number is what gave me a "positive" result for Downs. The counselor and the Dr./Specialist, both commented that it was probably my age that was tipping the scales for a positive result. My husband and I both come from big healthy families with no history of problems. I then had to "officially" sign a waver to decline an amnio...

When we finally got in for the actual ultra sound the tech was able to make some measurements of the baby's head, leg and arm bones and abdomen. She also told us the gender and said that everything looked as though it was within "normal range". When the doctor/specialist came in, the baby decided to turn his back to the camera and not cooperate... lol... no different than my other 4... He WAS able to get a look at the heart, that he framed up and clicked a button, and this red and blue appeared on the screen. It was the actual blood flow to and from the heart! THAT was really cool! But with the baby having his back to us, The doc really wasn't able to see the arms, legs, face and heart as well as he would have liked to. So, guess what?... I get to go back in three weeks to do it again!

So, while I didn't get the "fairly certain" from the doctor that I would have liked, I heard and saw enough to set my heart and mind at ease... I really think that it is just God's way of telling me to "let go and let God" I really need to just TRUST in Him and His plan... The ultra sound that I will have again in a few weeks will just be "gravy"... : )

I know that it can be easy to try and reassure someone in my situation to "be at peace" and "not to worry. Everything will be fine..." and I really appreciate the support and good intentions. I've done it myself for others... but now, having been through this myself it just shows me that "too much information" can be harmful, especially to the mind... This has been such an emotional roller coaster to me... I knew before I was pregnant that there was a risk of Downs or any other number of problems. But having a test come back "positive" really can have a toll... It's why I have declined the AFP screening for my last 3 pregnancies... I really did not realize when my doctor asked me to have the "First trimester u/s-screening" that it would involve all this, or I most probably would have declined it, as well, just to save myself the grief and worry... I know that they (medical science) do it all in the name of 'health' and 'staying informed', but today's society in general is just too programmed to "disposable life" and wanting to know everything so as to determine which life is viable and which is not... and being the pro-life person that I am, it's a really an ugly place to be immersed...

One of the papers that I had to sign yesterday was one asking if I was interested in having the AFP screening or the testing for Cystic Fibrosis... I wanted to write in BIG BOLD letters across the paper, "NO MORE TESTING!! Thank you!!" but, instead i just marked "declined" and signed my name... Thank you, to everyone that has prayed and offered words of wisdom and support. They really do mean the world to me and help immensely. God is good...

Now, without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to Samuel Elijah...
